Mac DVD player error 69889, not a very common Mac DVD player problem, has haunted a part of Mac users.  The error message pops up in the DVD reading or playback with a black screen after seconds of freezes. Unfortunately, both the error message text and code are too brief for users to identify which part of the system should be blamed for the error code 69889. In this post, we are going to dig into where things may go wrong and what to do to fix DVD error 69889.

DVD Player Error 69889

Reasons & Solutions:

Reason:

Mac DVD Player Error 69889 issues are mainly caused by misconfigured system files due to incomplete installation & uninstall, installing new ones, accidentally deleting important files, virus or adware attack, improper computer shutdown, etc. The Mac DVD player will pop up 69889 Error when the computer's registry system overloads with too much data, or when certain system files become missing or damaged.

Solutions:

Fix 1: The settings of DVD Player application may go awry. Go to User Library > Application Support > DVD Player. Find the folder named Settings in the DVD Player folder. Then delete the Settings folder and restart the Mac computer. Or if you don't see it, go to DVD Player icon in application folder > File > Get Disc Info and then a window will pop up and you will see the Settings file > click Reveal button and find its location. Then delete it.

Fix 2: "DVD Player encountered a system error" can be caused by corrupted DVD Player preferences. Open the Finder > click Go in Finder's menu bar > Go to Folder. Type or copy paste "~/LIbrary/Preferences/com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist". Then delete the com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist file and play the DVD on Mac again.
